STC Bunch Sunday Swiss FAQ
1 - What is the Sunday Swiss?
Every Sunday, join us for the Sunday Swiss tournament, a great Slow Time Control event for a wide range of ratings. Play three rounds with a time control of 45 5. There are three sections, Open, Under 1900, and even Under 1600, depending on entries (If there are less than six entries in a section, it will be merged with another one). This a a rare opportunity to play a long standard event, especially for the lower rated folks. ICC donates prizes (account extensions) to the top Grand Prix winner in each section each month.
2 - Who can play?
Wow, three ratings sections! STC Bunch membership is not required for participation in the tourney, although but only STC members can win prizes.
3 - When is the Sunday Swiss?
Sundays from approx 1:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
4 - How do I join the Sunday Swiss?
There is no pre-registration. Just be in channel 90 before the tourney, and watch for announcements that the STC-TD is taking entries.
Then, type this command: /message STC-TD Join Sunday Swiss, Section Open
Of course, replace " Open " with " Under 1900 " or " Under 1600 " as appropriate.
5 - How do I start a Sunday Swiss game?
Usually, a bot will provide you with a dialog box to click. If not, match your opponent manually, per the pairings displayed in channel 90 by STCRobot.
6 - Where are the pairings?
There is no command to get the pairings. Either watch channel 90, or check these web pages, which may be updated only once per round: Open Under 1900 Under 1600
7 - What games are still going?
There is no command to get the pairings. Either watch channel 90, or check the web pages, and observe the players in the event.
8 - When does my next game start?
The approximate start times are: Round 1 at 1:15, Round 2 at 3:00, Round 3 at 4:45. The pairings for the next round of your section cannot be made until all games in your section finishes. When they finish, the TD will either make the pairings or wait for late joins. Once the pairings are posted in channel 90, you may start. However, if either you or your opponent wish, you can wait until the advertised start time for the round.
9 - Why have I been given a bye?
If there are an odd number of players in a section, somebody must have a bye. The pairing rules say it must go to the player with the lowest score, and if several players are tied for the lowest score, it must go to the one with the lowest rating. Nobody who has already had one bye can have another.
First place in a section earns 12 points; second place earns 9; and points from 7 down to 1 are distributed among the other players. In the event of ties, points are shared.
12 - How is my Grand Prix section decided? What happens to my Grand Prix points if I play in different sections in different weeks?
Your Grand Prix section is worked out by taking your average rating from the start of each tournament in which you play (so if you are rated 1500 one week, 1550 the next, and 1650 the next, you will be in the U1600 Grand Prix section). All Grand Prix points earned count towards your total whether they were played in the same section or not.
13 - Where can I find more information?
First, read "finger STC-TD" and "help STC-Rules" It's required for participation, anyway.
Then ask the STC-TD if you still have questions.
Finally, contact camembert if the STC-TD was unable to assist you.
